I purchased a beautiful Bayliner, 2018 with very low hours, at the end of the season 2020. Due to difficulties, I was forced to keep it here for the winter. The level of service was terrible. There was no the customer is right. It was more, you bought it, it's not our issue.. I paid for some issues to be fixed. I had a difficult time getting the boat delivered as I live in a different state. When I finally was able to receive the boat, I continued to have many issues wrong. After spending thousands of dollars to fix issues that were supposed to be repaired, my boat is finally able to be enjoyed. Of course the season is over. I would not trust buying a boat at this marina. Obviously there was a reason it was a good price. It was a huge disappointment.
Marina Response:
Mr. Massa did not purchase this boat from Hoffman's Marina or Hoffman's Boat Sales. We do not know where he purchased this boat from as he never told us, but it was definitely from a separate marine brokerage that is completely unaffiliated with Hoffman's. His review appears to fraudulently suggest otherwise. We were not consulted prior to the purchase of his boat, nor did we have any connection whatsoever with the sale. Mr. Massa was a first time customer with us only after he had purchased his boat. He contacted us explaining that he needed to have the boat delivered to his out of state home, but he felt it was not running properly. Mr. Massa did spend $9,456.68 at Hoffman's Marina, but none of this was for any kind of repair service at all. Mr. Massa's invoices were specifically for the following services: Winter Storage, Winterization and Shrink Wrap, Bottom Painting, Hull and Topside Detail Services, Installing a customer supplied Garmin GPS Unit, Replacing all Zincs, Removing Shrink Wrap and Commissioning Engines for Spring. Only $703.76 was ever billed to Mr. Massa for anything even remotely related to repairs. In October of 2020 at Mr. Massa's request, Hoffman's Marina sent two marine technicians to Mr. Massa's boat to inspect the alleged engine trouble and undergo a complete sea trial. Diagnostic tests were conducted, engines revved to 4400 rpms and 4800 rpms trimmed out, and performed as they should. Photos of the gauges were taken during the sea trial and were provided to the customer. Customer was not charged for any repairs but was charged for the tech's time/travel. No repairs were ever done to Mr. Massa's engines by Hoffman's Marina. Mr. Massa stored the boat with Hoffman's for the winter during which various elective services were ordered by the customer and completed by the Marina. In the Spring of 2021, Hoffman's then spring commissioned Mr. Massa's boat. At this time, Hoffman's also sea trialed the boat once again at no additional charge. Again the engines performed as they should. After departing the Marina, Mr. Massa's delivery captain advised that he was having an undisclosed issue with the boat. Despite our request for more information, the nature of the captain's issue was never explained. Mr. Massa only stated in a May 19, 2021 email to us that he "wished the issue had happened when we had it." The boat never returned to the Marina for any repairs. We regret that Mr. Massa is now apparently unhappy with our performance and customer service, however, after our initial meeting he did request more and more elective services with us over the next six months. Had Hoffman's been advised of or given the opportunity to rectify whatever situation Mr. Massa is currently unhappy about, we certainly would have. Used boats sold at a "Good Price" usually require repairs. This is why it's always recommended to obtain a survey from a reliable source prior to purchasing any used boat. Had Mr. Massa actually purchased his boat from Hoffman's Marina/Hoffman's Boat Sales, that is exactly what we would have advised him to do.

I requested a mechanic’s service to repack my boat’s rudder stuffing box. Matt said he could handle it. I told him I would be returning in 8 days and he indicated it would not be an issue. It was. It was not done and I had to stay up until midnight the day before departure getting it done. Not at all appreciated. Second, the owner of the marina took it upon himself to instruct me on how to depart the dock with my boat, proclaiming several times that he has 35 years experience. Just to shut him up I followed his direction. He’s useless, to put it bluntly. Terrible advice and a 3 ring circus getting going.

great staff and excellent service. We were having a problem with our fuel pressure, called ahead and they had a mechanic on our boat before we were finished tying up. Fuel issue solved in a couple of hours on a Friday afternoon. The only downside is they're not protected from the channel and most boats don't obey the no wake zone so it can be a little bouncy.

Lots of noisy trains close by. Great Inlet. Rapid tide runs....be aware. Expensive at $4.00 per foot per night...for what’s there.....
Marina Response:
So sorry you don't think we were worth it. Hoffman's has been consistently on the top of the spectrum when it comes to satisfied customers. I am sorry but I am unable to control the tides as I did not create them. Our service, in light of the pandemic should have been appreciated by you since we went out of our way to come to the dock and help you tie up your boat. The train travels once every hour and again I did not put the tracks there. As far as $4.00 per foot, NY is 12.00, Jersey City NJ is $8.00, Nantucket is $13.00 and Cape May is $4.00 so I am confused.

Staff was extremely helpful with docking under high wind and current conditions. “Sal” was exceptional. Will definitely stay with Hoffman’s again while traveling the Jersey Coast.

I will not be returning to that marina. friendly people but the docks we’re not accommodating for getting on and off the boat especially with dogs.

Friendly staff. Great convenient stop if you are running the coast. Lots of boat traffic to watch and the train runs right next to the Marina, so it was interesting. Great layover. Out of the bay in 5 minutes,

This was the third time we had stopped at Hoffman’s while transiting the NJ coast. As always, the staff was very helpful and skilled in safely mooring our boat in adverse wind and current conditions. The facilities are excellent with especially nice heads and showers and a complimentary laundry. Be advised that it’s best to arrive and depart at slack water. The tidal currents are extreme and there are strong eddies around the ends of the piers closest to the railroad bridge. One uncomfortable aspect of our stay was not the fault of the marina. We tied up on a Sunday afternoon and the flood of boats making large wakes while fighting the ebb currents to get through the railroad bridge left the water in such turmoil that our boat rocked excessively in its slip. The only time it was calm was when the bridge was closed, stopping the boat traffic. By nightfall and the end of boat traffic, the slip became comfortable.

For the most part very nice experience. One thing I dont understand is that you have to go to the gas dock to get your slip assignment. Make NO sense, have to dock twice !! Also I requested a slip near the pool, I was no where near the pool. Dock help Mike & Sal were excellent. The third dock boy, with his long hair, hat on backwards and no shoes would not be working for me. Sorry guys. My son who is 12 could do a better job.

Friendly and helpful dock hands. Always tricky docking with the current, but lots of help to get you safely into the slip. Great pool, lots of good restaurants near by. Great laundry facilities. Will look forward to another stay.

We had to duck in here going from Atlantic to NYC as things just got too rough. They accommodated us by phone without a reservation. The help docking and tying up was great! Sal, the dockmaster is a real gentleman and very nice guy. Our bow-thruster broke a shear pin, just as we were docking. The mechanic on site fixed it in less than an hour. These folks could not be more helpful or friendly. Highly recommended. There are two restaurants on site, Waypoint 622, where we had dinner was very nice, great wine selection and food. Can't say enough good things about Hoffmans.

Outstanding dock hands. A bit hard to get hold of on the radio - do not seem to have a working channel. Very convenient to Manasquan Inlet and to local restaurants.

Fabulous staff, helpful and easy to work with. The fuel dock attendant Stan was very accommodating and all staff was very friendly. We look forward to our return visit.

all the reviews I found that mentioned the customer service are %100 dead on. we stayed over memorial day weekend. we entered Manasquan inlet after a rather rough rode down the jersey coast from Haverstraw NY , and as soon as I throttled down to idle I lost my stbd eng.We were on the phone with Mike the dockmaster to get out slip , and we were directed to the fuel dock. these guys jumped right in and started to trouble shoot the issue. I then had to shift to our slip on one engine , but one of the guys rode with us to assist as these slips are tricky. be prepared for ripping currents both in and outbound , and for most who are used to floating docks, it will be a lesson in line handling and piling tie up. we were on the east side separated by railroad tracks to where the restaurant and pool were , but it was a short walk over. there were facilities on our side which were spotless and new. we were provided with info packet on arrival and they answered all questions, and the pt pleasant boardwalk area was a $11 uber ride. The marina staff are truly knowledgable and helpful. When we left we felt like we gained some new friends.
