9/8/26-A nice stay at Safe Harbor Hawthorne Cove. We were on the outside face dock. It was a little rolly when the wind was up, but not bad. No issues with boat wakes, including the ferry that docked right behind us. Easy access to town. Great, helpful staff! Recommended!

September 2026, we were glad to be in the transient Slip on C dock for this visit. The wind was quite strong from the east, but we were very comfortable. The Marina now has new bathrooms than our spacious and well appointed. However, the best thing about Hawthorne Cove is the staff! The staff are warm, friendly, engaging, and helpful . Thank you 2024 We visited over Labor Day so we were invited to the Marina’s party. Good food with great music. Upon arrival at the Marina, we were assisted by 2 young women dock hands, who expertly tied Élan to the dock. Ally, the Dock Master, is training them well! Ally’s care of the marina and staff is reflected in all that she does. Thank you for a nice stay. Hope to see you in 2024. 2023. Marina staff and dock hands continue to be helpful and very accommodating. Location is great as we visited the Peabody Essex Museum and several good restaurants. 2022. Again we had a lovely enjoyable stay. Same lovely place. 2021. Helpful staff, good dock hands! Friendly place. Very clean showers. Outside picnic area with grills. Great location to explore Salem. Wonderful block ice! Visited again a week later. Same great experience!!

Not really a complaint but if you choose a mooring, you could be quite a distance from the marina. We had our own dinghy with an outboard and only went in to the marina to see the facilities. We went in to the Picketing Wharf area which is a must see. There is a lot to see in Salem. Nice staff. Adam Kaufman on Bodacious

Very nice facility and staff! A short pleasant walk to town. Salem is great stop off history, culture and restaurants. Hawthorne cove a perfect setting for sunrise and sunset! Thank you to everyone at Hawthorns cove for making our stay wonderful.

Very helpful dock hands and well kept marina. Sunday morning baked goods (complimentary) and live entertainment is a great tradition at the marina. Great access to all that Salem has to offer. S/V Eclipse

We loved our visit there this past weekend. The team was amazing and helped move us to an inside slip when the wind clicked up to 40!!! One of our favorite places to stay. Be sure to try out Mercy Tavern and the Trade House - both amazing!!!!

Nice harbor. We were located a little far from the marina to want to dinghy on a windy day but the launch service was great. Loads to do and many places to eat.

About Safe Harbor Hawthorne Cove

In the heart of one of the most historic towns in the country, Safe Harbor Hawthorne Cove is a gateway to Salem’s eclectic culture and the popular North Shore. An atmosphere of rich maritime history combines with newly renovated facilities including a wave attenuating dock and state-of-the-art marine service center to create a distinctive New England home port

Directions

As you approach the mouth of Salem Harbor please contact us on VHF Channel 08. If coming in for a SLIP proceed to green daymark #23 at the edge of our mooring field for your slip assignment and instructions. From there proceed to green can 25. At green can 25, you will see the corner of our face dock, perpendicular to the ferry. A dockhand with a red shirt will come down to assist. Please be cautious of the Hazard markers just off of the face dock. This is a mud flat with 2' of water. DO NOT go in-between the hazard markers.

If coming in for a MOORING please hail us on VHF Ch. 08 at the mouth of Salem harbor and proceed to green daymark #23. You will either be told to hold your position there or proceed to daymark #2 depending on mooring assignment. Either the launch operator on duty or a dock staff member in a marina work boat will come and escort you to your transient mooring.

Navigation Considerations: Low water and mud exposed intertidal at Mean Low Water to the west of the fairway and marina's C dock towards Derby Wharf. Sand and mud not exposed at low water in front of Marina’s A&B Dock.
