Absolutely stunning views. Short walk to anything you could want. They got it all. It was a fantastic experience.

The staff were amazingly helpful, explaining the rough waters from ferry traffic before we arrived and helped us dock and tie the boat and properly fender for these conditions. The view from here is amazing. Plan to not be on the boat until after 8:30pm when the waves settle down and everyone slept like a baby. I hear they have wave attenuation coming and that will be awesome! Showers are also missing … but again on the way apparently.. so call and confirm! Great location in Hoboken! Walking distance to EVERYTHING!

The Shipyard Marina is unique. It’s small and well contained. There’s an active sailing club on site as well as a group giving jet ski tours of the NY waterfront. The place was bustling all day. Pier 13, on which the marina is located, is home to an ongoing food truck festival as well as a busy and popular bar the occupies more than half the pier. The view of midtown Manhattan across the River is enough to occupy your interest for a long time. The lights at night are amazing. The next pier over (Pier 14) is home to a ferry terminal with routes to both Midtown and Downtown Manhattan. The main piers at the marina are modern floating concrete docks. Our boat was too big for their slips so we were tied up (with outstanding help from an eager dockhand) on a woodenv extension of the concrete dock. It was parallel to Pier 13 and below the back of the bar buildings. The buildings kept the noise from the bar to a very low level. After the bar closed, all was very quiet. As is inevitable on the Hudson across from NYC, the water is busy and our boat moved around quite a bit. This too settled down after dark. There is a wide selection of restaurants within easy walking distance of the marina if you’re not into food trucks. There is a decent market and a Walgreens drug store just 2 blocks away. The best thing about this stay was the attitude of the staff. Everybody we met was eager to help and just as eager to engage in long conversations. They were all wonderful! UPDATED: 07/29/2024 (The above was written 3 years ago.) The staff attitude and helpfulness remain at a high level. That’s still one of the great things about this marina. On the other hand, the price has gone up significantly over the last 3 years (as it has across marinas in the New York City area). However, the amenities have not increased. There are no showers, for example. The worst thing about this stay, however, was the rambunctious water conditions. We were assigned space at the end of a T dock facing the brunt of the wave action coming through the marina entrance. We weren’t protected by the pier structure like last time. The rolling and pitching of our 42 foot, 40,000 pound boat was excessive and constant until well after dark. The motion was so great that my mate would not risk trying to get off the boat and onto the pier. When the motion was at its worst during the evening rush hour, I could not get off the boat either. It’s not good feeling trapped on your boat when there are so many good things to do once you get ashore. Let me say again that the staff support was really good and they weren’t responsible for the seas and the weather. It was just a very uncomfortable day for us. I ended my review of my previous stay by stating that Shipyard Marina would be our “go to” stopping place in the NYC area. That’s no longer the case. We will probably stay at some place even more expensive, but more pleasant and secure.

Adam and his team were excellent. It was our first time there. Adam called several times with specific instructions to help guide us in. He and 2 others on his team met us at the dock to help us tie up and secure the boat. It can get a little rough in there so they provided us with extra bumpers. Top notch service. We will definitely go back!

Too rough and no protection at all from waves. This isnt a marina its a joke. No amenities and staff is rude. Way way too rough like docking in the open ocean during storms.

by xavier p. on Jun 29, 2024
One star because Adam the dock master was very helpful Second start for location. This is not a marina. The wakes are worse than a bad day at sea. Not kidding. Several time my stanchions almost touched the dock. You can’t stay other boat during the day. To rocky. Getting in and out can be dangerous if you’re not super careful. The boat takes a terrible beating. You need extra large fenders because they get caught under the dock when heeling Adam graciously landed us two mega fenders. No amenities either. Seems more like a slumlord marina

STAY AWAY! DON’T COME HERE IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR BOAT. You may as well be docked in a hurricane, no breakwater and you WILL damage your boat if you dock here. Just read the other reviews on Dockwa and Marinas.com. Terrible and nonexistent service, no security, no showers, no washing machines, no bathrooms, no fuel, no boat ramp, no boat lift, no service department, no parking, no breakwater system, no ice, no ANYTHING. DO NOT BELIEVE THEM WHEN THEY SAY THEY WILL PUT IN A BREAKWATER SYSTEM. BAIT AND SWITCH, THIS IS A LIE. STAY AWAY!! Go to Liberty Landing.

Marina staff wonderful View of the city spectacular Quite rocky and rolly until boat traffic stopped

by Marie-Pierre B. on Jun 11, 2024
Amazing views! When you are prepared that it’s gonna be rolly, it’s just perfect! Nice people, easy to get to Manhattan!

Could be a great marina one day, but currently things are very rough. Especially the the water, there is no breakwater to even temper the wakes from the ferry traffic! It was horrible, broke a dock line even with chaffing gear, 6 fenders and 3 ball fenders we use for the locks, violet at times. Also no amenities, no showers, no bathroom (except public ones) no laundry etc. As I said could be a great marina one day, Adam the person I worked with is nice enough but has a lot to contend with to make this a viable marina - at least for me.

It was very wavy during day due to boat traffic, but calmed down at night. Pier 13 has a great nightlife. Fun place. Dockmaster was great

We were there with a 45 ft sailing yacht and felt very comfortable. The marina is centrally located for a trip to New York and has great bars and restaurants in the area. The people are very friendly and are happy to help with any questions. Thank you for the good time.

We had a great time while at the shipyard Marina. There are lots of stores and shops very close by and within walking distance. The crew at the marina was fantastic. They were very helpful and pleasant to work with. You do get some waves there, but I understand that is true of all the Marinas in the area. It is also very easy to get to New York City either by the ferry or an Uber. There's also a super view of New York City during the day and especially at night.

As a 13 year seasonal customer I find the Shipyard crew and management helpful, pleasant and professional . Adam Leitner, running the maring this year is the best!

Excellent little marina with the best views of Manhattan anyone could ask for. Perfect location for a New York City stop over. Make sure you check out Hoboken while you're there also. Helpful, friendly staff make for easy docking. This location is right beside the NY ferry terminal so getting to Manhattan is simple. Note... this marina can get a bit rocky as it is pretty exposed to the Hudson River so make sure you have a few extra fenders and some additional dock lines. Don't let this deter you however as it is an affordable and nice spot to hang out while visiting the Big Apple.

The marina is in a world-class location - looking right up at midtown Manhattan. Hoboken is a perfect place to enjoy the skyline of Manhattan with tons of great dining and activity. The staff at Shipyard were attentive, accomodating and very helpful.

We enjoyed our tie-up at Shipyard very much. Adam and his team were very professional and the walk to shops and restaurants was second only to the view.

What a great spot to end up after transiting Hellgate & the East River. Adam, the manager, could not have been more helpful; he met me at the dock and with his assistant helped maneuver me into the slip. And then he was there to handle the lines as I left in the morning. Soecial bonus: a world-class grocery & liquor store only a block away!

by William n. on Aug 16, 2023
You cannot beat the location!!! The dockmaster was very personable, welcoming and helpful. The nightime views to Manhattan were spectacular and the immediate neighborhood was filled with great restaurants and nightlife. Manhattan is a quick five minute train ride away. I called three other marinas on the Manhattan side and not one called me back. Shipyard will be my first pick when I head to NY Harbor in the future.

Stayed there for a couple days. The manager and his team were very helpful and accommodating. Definitely the best location in town - literally 15 minutes away from midtown by bus (~$3). The only downside is the wake from nearby ferry, not really an issue at night or if you’re there for a few days. Marina has plans to build a breaker, which will make this marina even better!

by ELY M. - Verified user on Aug 26, 2022
It's very rocky because it's directly exposed to traffic on the Hudson but there's always something going on and the marina staff can't be nicer or more accommodating. Will definitely return.
Marina Response:
Thank you for the kind words and being understandable about our exposure to the New York Harbor ferry wakes. We are continuously making improvements so please do come again soon.

The marina has a great location, however, my slip was too small for my boat. The marina does not have wake protection, consequently, we couldn't sleep because the boat was aggressively banging on both sides of the slip. Basically, there are no amenities. The bathroom does not have showers and is located in the busy food court area. Finally, the gate closed 9:30 PM and they didn't provide a key for us. One good thing is the internet, an excellent signal. I cannot recommend this marina.
Marina Response:
We are sorry that your visit was so difficult. We are working on wave attenuation solutions as we are exposed to the commuter ferry wakes. We do provide transient keys for 24/7 access when you are a guest and apologize that that key was not provided to you. We hope you will consider another visit especially after we install a wave attenuation wall.

This is a terrible location due to the lack of any protection from wakes that sweep through all day and well into late evening. You'll need all your fenders and then some. The place is minimally staffed. No one answered radio or telephone when we were approaching dock. No showers. No wifi.
Marina Response:
Hello, we are sorry that your experience was not exceptional. We are consistently making improvements and your feedback will be taken into account. We've completely replaced our Wifi system and we've been exploring wave attenuation solutions to protect us from the ferry wakes that roll through during daylight and evening hours.

Dockhands were fantastic. The location is fantastic. I love Hoboken.

About The Shipyard Marina

Located on the coveted Northeast waterfront of Hoboken, the Shipyard Marina is a important part of this community. The marina boasts an exceptional location that is convenient to transportation as well as a wealth of businesses. Midtown or downtown New York City is a fast NY Waterway ferry ride from neighboring Pier 14. There is a New Jersey Transit 126 bus stop that whisks you into the heart of Times Square. Car share (Uber/Lyft) and the 24/7 PATH subway are also great option. The marina is attached to Pier 13 Hoboken cocktail lounge, and a short walk to breakfast, lunch and dinner restaurant options, nightlife, a supermarket, a liquor store and a parking garage. We can accommodate boats up to 60' in length and have seasonal, monthly, weekly, daily and hourly Dock & Dine rates. Come stay with us and enjoy all that Hoboken has to offer! PLEASE NOTE; We are considered a rough marina because we don't have wave attenuation. We have a ferry slip one pier north of us and we get ferry wakes that come through the marina during commuting hours. The best way to manage the wakes are with plenty of fenders and good lines.
