A boater's guide to The Perry Hotel & Marina
The Perry Hotel & Marina is a Dockwa boater network favorite. It offers the best of both worlds. You get to dock at an exclusive, serene resort, yet are only a few minutes away from all the attractions in downtown Key West. You can split your time between charging your batteries at the marina and exploring Old Town key West.
Approach and dockage
Navigating to The Perry Hotel & Marina is just as easy for a 400’ vessel as it is for a 12’ dingy. The approach has zero overhead obstructions, and the channel is plenty deep even at low tide (18’ at its shallowest).
As you enter the Safe Harbor Channel, you will see a boat yard on your port side and a red and white smoke stack on your starboard side. Make your way down the channel until you see The Perry Hotel & Marina on your port side.
The way The Perry Hotel & Marina is situated in the harbor means that every boat is well protected even from the harshest conditions. Yet the spacing between the marina’s beautiful Bellingham floating docks is plenty wide for easy arrival and departure.
If you need any assistance during your approach, the marina can be reached on VHF Channel 10 at any time of the day. The Perry Hotel & Marina has someone manning the lines 24/7.
The Perry Hotel & Marina amenities
The best part about staying at The Perry Hotel & Marina is that you get access to all the wonderful resort amenities they share with the onsite Perry Hotel. A few faves:
The Perry Hotel
Take a break from the berth and book a room at the award-winning Perry Hotel. The onsite hotel is decorated with a unique blend of contemporary furnishings and rustic touches. Plus their rooms offer plenty of space for you to stretch out your sea legs.
Pools
The property boasts two waterfront pools, both conveniently located dockside with cocktail service! They’re beautifully maintained with lounge chairs, and palm trees lining its perimeter. Most boaters can spend all day here cycling between taking a dip in the pool and ordering a drink from the poolside bars.
Salty Oyster Dockside Bar and Grill
This outside restaurant feels like you're hanging out in a cabana while overlooking the docks and pool area. They have great cocktails (Mojito is fantastic), an awesome selection of local draft beers, and of course fresh seafood. They are also dog friendly so you can have your pup right next to you while you eat. Be sure to attend their happy hour that runs daily from 4pm-6pm.
Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen & Bar
Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen & Bar is an indoor/outdoor restaurant within the Perry Hotel. They serve up American Coastal Comfort food but will also prepare anything you caught on the water. If you are there on Sunday, you need to make sure to go to their brunch. Locals flock to it.
Stock Shop
Inside the Perry Hotel is the Stock Shop, a full service bodega. It has a variety of snacks, beer, wine, groceries, and common household items. But most boaters raid it for when it’s their turn to host docktails.
Proximity to attractions by land
Shuttle Service to Key West (At marina)
Stock Island Village Marina offers a complimentary shuttle that takes guests to Key West every hour on the hour. This 4 mile drive takes about 15 minutes making it a breeze to get to and from the Southernmost City. The shuttle stops at both ends of Key West: Old Town where all the action is and Higgs Beach which is perfect for sunbathing and swimming.
Duval Street (5 miles away)
Duval Street is the main drag of downtown Key West and has a New Orleans vibe to it. It’s only a mile long but is packed with world famous bars, restaurants, shops, and attractions. This street is lively at practically every hour of the day.
Mallory Square (5.5 miles away)
Mallory Square situated on the west side of the island is world-famous for their sunsets. Tourists and locals funnel into the square two hours before sunset to watch street performances including musicians, magicians, jugglers, and artists. The grand finale is an awe-inspiring pink and red sun sinking into the Gulf of Mexico horizon.
Key West Golf Course (1.3 miles away)
This public golf course is located on Stock Island just 1.3 miles away from the marina. Legendary golf course architect Rees Jones designed this 18 hole course which is plenty of fun for players of all abilities. Bring your own clubs or rent some from the pro shop.
Proximity to attractions by sea
Sandy Key Light (9 miles away)
Sandy Key Light is a lighthouse located just southwest of Stock Island. Surrounding the now inactive lighthouse is a well protected and beautiful reef. Pull up at one of the 21 mooring balls and enjoy some of the best snorkeling the keys has to offer.
Marquesas Keys (25 miles away)
The Marquesas Keys are a circular chain of uninhabited islands about 25 miles west of Stock Island Village. While most of the islands are covered in mangroves, there is a beautiful beach on the northernmost key. Boaters love to travel to this secluded island to snorkel, sight see, fish, and beach it.
Dry Tortugas National Park (74 miles away)
Situated 74 miles west of Stock Island is Dry Tortugas National Park. The main draw of Dry Tortugas is visiting Fort Jefferson, a military fortress built by the US Navy in 1856. But the island offers so much more including beautiful beaches, coral reefs, and wildlife. The trip to Dry Tortugas is definitely worth taking by boat. Just make sure you have everything you need onboard because there’s no food, water, or fuel available at the park.
