Beautiful little beach to dinghy into and a nice protected cove for the night! Thank you Harbormaster for your responsiveness!

East and strong mooring. We’re here in a small gale. Lovely place!

My second stay here, I really like it. Harbormaster communicates well with messages through Dockwa - thank you
Marina Response:
We do offer one important service and that is a harbor of refuge. If you ever have been unfortunate enough to be caught in a wind against tide situation in Rhode Island Sound or Buzzards Bay, you’ll be happy to wait it out at Third Beach.

I love the location and the mooring itself was very good. However, it was a very rolly night and my wife did not like it at all. We will definitely come back, but may want to stay closer to shore. Thanks
Marina Response:
The chart dictates that we have a fetch from anything Northerly, however in prevailing summer Southerly’s, we are very well protected.

Really nice marina on a day with gentle winds!

A great spot to ride out the storm. I usually anchor, but the mooring (only $20!) made fora very comfortable night’s sleep. Harbormaster very friendly & helpful.

Although we had a reservation thru Dockwa, it was not clear what our mooring assignment would be. Attempt to contact harbormaster via radio and phone was delayed, Harbormaster did return pnone call after 15 minutes, appartently a one man show for all of Newport?
Marina Response:
Although we are on Aquidneck Island, we are not Newport, we are a quiet, peaceful Anchorage, surrounded by a Wildlife, and Bird Sanctuary, with no facilities, hence the very reasonable 20 dollar fee.. Your unannounced early check-in corresponded with lunch hour. I got your first phone call at 12:19, your second phone call at 12:21 and I returned it at 12:24. Check your phone. I hope you found Newport, commodore ,they have the service you’re looking for. Fair Tides, HM.

Great location. Looks to be 4 transient moorings. Only two recommendations are to put in the description that the transient rentals are red bottomed. Only knew that from reading harbormaster’s reply to other reviews. Also, would be nice to number and assign the balls in case you get there on the harbormaster’s day off and the balls are full with someone who hasn’t paid but is squatting on a ball. But you cannot beat the price and the location is really nice.
Marina Response:
We offer 8 transient moorings at this time, reservations are recommended

Beautiful setting. Self serve mooring field, but it is not clear which moorings are private and which are for transients.
Marina Response:
Town rental moorings have red bottom paint and say rental -private moorings dominate the field with blue bottom paint most rental moorings are on the outer edge. Our office is closed Mondays and Tuesdays but I will respond to text on those days. HarborMaster

The Harbormaster was there when we arrived to assist us if needed. It was a quiet and relaxing evening. We will definitely go again.

Always a pleasure to stay at 3rd beach. Plenty of space between moorings and clean water for swimming.

Open mooring. Easy to find.

We moored in this beautiful cove by Third Beach. Hard to find a more picturesque spot. We could almost have swum to the beach but just jumped off the platform instead. Great spot for a relaxing stay.

3rd Beach is a great stop for us, but the town needs to do better with its moorings. They were always first come, but two weeks ago we found they were all reserved. So be it, we anchored, after being tossed of a mooring by the harbor master. This time, we reserved on DOCKWA, but on arrival, no call to the harbor master was answered. So without him there, if the (reserved) moorings are otherwise occupied, then what? Plus, if you reserve, you pay, but if you just pick up a mooring, no one comes to collect the fee. Do it one way or the other, please.
Marina Response:
Third Beach has been on Dockwa for three years. We are a self serve mooring field with a beach. We offer no facilities or service, this is reflected in the very reasonable $20 fee. Because we offer one of the most beautiful anchorage around, bordering on the Sachuest national wildlife reserve, and Norman Bird Sanctuary, weekends in the summer are usually always sold out. We recommend at least one week lead time for a weekend mooring. I take no joy in “tossing “ people off moorings, but I have to respect the patrons who have made prior plans and paid in advance. Another downside to the $20 fee is the budget. I am a one man show, with Mondays and Tuesdays off. I do not except cash or tips, everything is done on the Dockwa app. Fair Tides.

About Town of Middletown Harbormaster

Located on the west side of the entrance to the Sakonnet River, Third Beach has often been described as a hidden gem. What it lacks in amenities, it makes up with its beauty and charm. The harbor is often a destination for day trippers looking to enjoy a relaxing afternoon or as an overnight stop on your way to the Elizabeth Islands or Block Island. Our mooring field can accommodate boats up to 60 feet and we allow rafting. Anchoring is allowed upon approval from the Harbormaster. Third Beach is a very family friendly beach and is accessible by dinghy.
