We've been here before, a year ago , and chose to stay here again for one night on our way up the Chesapeake Bay. Inherently , nothing wrong with the marina but it's not very dog friendly so I doubt that we will be back. It was extraordinarily hot the day we arrived and the docks were so hot đŸ”„đŸ„” (we were warned thankfully by the dockhands). But it's a long way to where there's an area to walk the dogs and I just have to say that it was horrible for our girls. I stopped a few times to hose down their paws đŸŸ but we couldn't wait to get back to the boat. The area where we can walk the dogs is a public parking lot and people are smoking pot in their cars. We noticed that on our last visit a year ago too. But this time, we saw two condoms lying on the ground. So gross! For this reason, and as long as we have our dogs traveling with us, we'll chose another marina. I give this marina a 3 only because of the dog issues. If you don't have dogs, then it's fine.

Nice Marina and restaurant. This is our second visit this summer. Walking distance to downtown Portsmouth, Ferry across Elizabeth River to Norfolk. Suntex has several marinas on the east coast. Good outfit! Rick is the GM for both Portsmouth and Yorktown and both are excellent.

We've stayed there many times and it's always good. The staff is very friendly and professional and the facilities are good. Since Suntex acquired the facility there have been numerous repairs and improvements. It had gotten a little run down but now it's back to an A+ facility. The location is great - there are many attractions and restuarants nearby both in Portsmouth and Norfolk.

I have been a Captain for 40 years and I stay at this marina multiple times a year and have always enjoyed it, however I will NEVER stay at Tidewater marina again. I was told by the Manager, Rick Monday, that he would “untie my lines and kick me the fuck out” because I questioned him about moving me and that he was doing me a favor, stared cussing at me because I refused to come to the dock office when he summoned me on the phone, and when I hung up on him, he went ballistic. Rude, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional!

There was no AC in the bath house. This morning I was told that it would be at least a week before it's fixed. Only minimal water pressure. The water temperature kept getting hotter and hotter. Apparently the cold water doesn't work either. Other than that, it was a good stay.

Tidewater has a first rate setup, but they have given over control of one of their dock bathrooms to Freedom Boating Club. Only 4 toilet seats available to the whole marina's men when freedom Boating Club is closed.

No line handlers after 5PM even we give our arrival time 6:30 pm. No assistance at all. Morning &am nobody to assist with lines so we dock and undock by ourselves.
Marina Response:
Hi Orlando, the team spoke to you several times during the day of your arrival and we were not made aware of a request for after-hours line handlers for arrival or departure. We strive to make every effort to serve our customers needs. We hope to see you and your beautiful yacht on a future visit and look forward to being of service again in the future.

I had to call outside of the 48-hour window to cancel my reservation due to high wind conditions. I was disappointed that Tidewater Yacht Marin a would not even consider a partial refund.
Marina Response:
Christopher - We understand your disappointment; however, the cancellation policy for Harborfest reservations is clearly outlined at the time of booking. Since your cancellation occurred outside the refund window, we were unable to issue a refund as stated on the phone at time of cancellation. We apply the same policy to all guests, regardless of the reason for cancellation.

Best kept secret in Hampton Roads! Rick Monday, Caitlyn, Kathryn and their team are always hands on deck to assist. The docks are beautiful - great location - and a wonderful restaurant attached ( shout out to Jessica of Fish and Slips)

We felt very fortunate to get a slip during Harborfest and arrived after the marina was closed but staff texted slip assignment and bath house code so we were good to go! Our dock (west access) was a fixed dock and slightly rough but manageable. The restaurant is excellent and the view across to Norfolk for the parade of tall ships was amazing

TYM was very busy for Sail250, Juneteenth, and Harborfest. Despite the multitude of boats arriving, their dockhands were extremely responsive and skilled at their jobs. TYM social events were enjoyable and the tall ships and fireworks shows made the weekend even more special.

No power at our end of A dock, many of our dock mates had the same issue To be fair we got there late, but the others who were early just shrugged when asked what they were going to do about it Stuff happens, but there should be communication, especially after calling and leaving messages with no response
