Excellent location for visiting Portsmouth old town centre and Strawberry Bank historical museum (both of which were great - Portsmouth is well worth the visit). The Municipal dock was great value and the dockmaster was extremely friendly and helpful - as were other local boaters. Be wary of the fast tidal flow though - not much of a problem once on the dock but getting onto dock in fast flow could be an issue. Large body of water upstream makes this river flow much faster than you’d expect. We found slack water at the dock was about 1.5 hours after high tide Portsmouth. So you can enter Portsmouth harbour about half hour after high tide and it’ll help you in a little as you head up the river and be pretty slack when you’re trying to dock. Similar at low water probably but didn’t specifically measure that timing.

Bathrooms in the park should be open earlier. Not “sometime” in the afternoon. The entertainment was awesome.

8/10/26 - We stayed at Prescott Park for 6 nights. Overall, it was a great stay. The docks are nice, and the dock staff is even nicer. Access to the Park (entertainment every night) was excellent, and downtown Portsmouth is just a short walk away. A great value.
The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the current at the docks is 5-6 knots, especially when the tide is going out. This makes it difficult to dock in slips and causes some bounce. The other issue is that, with that strong current, boats tend to ride up the river as fast as they can. This causes lots of wake waves. We were on the outside of the T-Head, so we took the brunt. The tour boats are the worst, with 2+ ft wakes. We use inflatable fenders, and one of them popped!
Still a great stay! If you can, try for an inside slip.

The concrete docs are great,,, the wooden docks are very uneven, very splintery, and they have zero bumpers to help prevent scratching the boat

Great proximity to the city, but no protection from the river and wakes. You better be a good captain to get on the dock and make sure you have plenty of protection for your boat, massive wakes hitting all day. Was nice overnight but wakes hitting again early morning.

Loved the location. There is so much current we wouldn’t consider anchoring and then leaving to check out the town. The dock is within walking distance to everything you would want to see in Portsmouth. Great charming New England town rich in history. Has a village that is similar to Williamsburg -easier to get to by water so I will not have to drive there. There are movies played in the park at night. We could watch Singing in the Rain right from our front trampoline. Highly recommend the stop

I loved the reservation system! I arrived and my spot had my name on it. My only complaint is that there were no bumpers or rubber protection on the docks. Be sure to bring adequate bumpers for docking.

About Prescott Park Municipal Dock
Publicly available docking space is available at Prescott Park on the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth. Reservations are possible. The dock is governed by city ordinance. The dockmasters monitor VHF Channel 09, and notice of arrivals is requested. List of amenities below may be nearby and not specifically on site. Dock space may be reserved by the hour, you will need to request the amount of time. Limited 30 amp spaces are available, you will need a 30 to 50 amp splitter for other slips. Docking on the cement docks require a 4 hour minimum fee.
PLEASE NOTE: Standard hourly without a 4 hr minimum will have to be on the wooden north docks without power and water.
Booking Info
Portsmouth Residents Please Note: All rates will be booked at the non-resident rate, please indicate you are Portsmouth resident in the "Special Requests" area located under the "Total Price" in the DOCKWA reservation area. The rate will be adjusted to the resident rate once the Dockmaster has reviewed your booking, ensured there is a dock available and contacted you in regards to proof of residency. Your Credit Card will be charged at the Resident Rate if a dock slip is available.
It should be noted, our lowest rate of $20.00 occurs in the offeseason (after October), the minimum rate for summer dockage is $40.00 and will increase based off the size of your vessel.
Please note, for Temporary Dockage: Our rate is set for a non-resident 4 hour stay. If you'd like to stay less than 4 hour, please let us know and we will discount your reservation appropriately. Please use the "Special Request" field to inform us of your expected time of stay.
