Nice stay. Nice staff. Very accommodating.

The staff is super friendly, the showers and pool were clean. The showers could use more hooks to hang our things. Loved the double security at night.

Very delightful place! Staff and other boaters are very friendly. Can walk to many restaurants, grocery, post office etc. laundry on site. I’ve never stayed at a cleaner place. They are always cleaning the restroom - major and minor cleanings during the day.

Nice clean marina, staff was very helpful. Great location, except not many restaurants near by.

The location is excellent and the staff very helpful, but the Marina in general dirty . Recycling bins were overflowing. Trash frequently seen in the water particularly at the entrance by Freedom Boat Club . Washing machines were loaded with pet hair despite signs asking people to clean up machines . Perhaps a separate washing machine for pets would make sense . In general feels like too many boats and not enough help .

Harborage Marina is one of a kind! Excellent service, went above and beyond to make our 58' wheelchair accessible catamaran feel welcome in St Pete.

Marina was able to take our reservation on a short notice.

We came in on a windy afternoon and were directed to our spot on the outer wall. When we requested help docking from the dock master, he replied that he’d have to actually stand up, walk down stairs, get in his golf cart and drive out to where we were attempting to tie up. Luckily, this marina has a few helpful liveaboards who all came out to take our lines. Apparently, no help whatsoever from the dock masters is entirely standard.
Marina Response:
Michelle, Please accept our sincere apology for any inconvenience. It appears there was some miscommunication upon your arrival. Unfortunately, your slip assignment was the furthest point in the marina from the dockmaster’s office, between ¼ and ½ mile away. One dockmaster was out on the docks bringing a boat into another slip when you called; the other staff member you spoke with was attempting to explain that it would take some time for him to cover the distance to your location. We have discounted your stay as a gesture of goodwill. We hope that you will visit the Harborage Marina again soon!

Brandon is great to work with. We didn't get to come down due to inability to get our boat started. But today we are going to try again after hopefully replacing the ignition. Thanks for working with us. Emily

The staff was very helpful and informative, a very nice marina to visit ,quiet

Great welcome from harborage staff, quiet environment, very well maintained docks, power and facilities. We will return. Be aware of the nearby Coast Guard newbies, who seemed to deem transient yachts as boarding inspection training ground. They’d be funny if they didn’t grip their side arms while trying to intimidate you.

Very nice marina. Floating docks make it easy to tie up, plenty of room to maneuver in the fairways. Nice showers, laundry and Captain’s Lounge. Second time I’ve stayed here, and I’ll gladly come back.

Excellent experience, had to put in unexpectedly and the process was easy and straightforward. Great service all around.

The office was closed when I arrived so I did not get to interact with the staff in person, however they called to see if I needed anything, or had any questions before arrival. The floating docks are in great shape and fenders are set so there is one less thing to do. The facility has great amenities, and it is a short walk to the downtown St. Petersburg trolly.

A Wanderer’s guide to Safe Harbor Harborage Marina

Nestled along the beautiful University of South Florida St. Petersburg campus, Safe Harbor Harborage Marina offers top notch amenities for any boater’s needs–from the small to the mega-yacht, as it is the only full-service mega yacht port on Florida’s West Coast. Pull in, tie up, and enjoy the pool or while also providing easy access to all St. Petersburg has to offer.

Approach and Dockage

Safe Harbor Harborage Marina is located in protected Bayboro Harbor on the south side of Albert Whitted Airport. Enter through the Bayboro Harbor Inlet channel. A Coast Guard station and Salt Creek Inlet will be on your port side. The entrance to the marina docks will be on your starboard side. Docks are labeled by letters and each hold different sized slips, so check with the dockmaster where you’re headed before pulling in. Be sure to keep an eye out on moving sailboat masts to see if any are coming out while you’re headed in.

Marina Amenities

Bathrooms/Showers The bath house is located underneath the marina office. Showers and bathrooms are located in each of the women’s and men’s rooms.

Laundry Credit card operated washing machines and dryers in the bathhouse.

Pet Access Poynters Park is located a quarter mile away with great green space along the water to take your pet to shore.

Pool Relax by the marina’s private pool with great views of the marina or at the tiki hut for shade.

Fuel/Pump-Out Fuel dock with gas and diesel is located near Harborage’s dry storage facility on Salt Creek half a mile from the marina. Harborage offers a pump-out boat for a charge on Tuesdays and Fridays or there is a public self-service pump-out available at the mouth of Salt Creek.

Grills Located in front of the pool making it a perfect spot to cook a meal with friends.

Proximity to Attractions by Land

Getting Around A lot of the main attractions are accessible by foot or bike. If you don’t have a bike (or even if you do), it’s easy to pick up an e-scooter for rent via Veo and Razor to scoot around the city. The city also offers trolleys for 50 cents a ride that can take you around downtown and even to the beach and back.

St. Pete Pier (1.3 miles) Opened in 2020, the newest version of the St. Pete Pier is a fun interactive park with restaurants, art, playgrounds, and more. Take a trolley or walk the roughly half mile length of the pier, stopping along the way to dodge sprinklers at the Splash Pad, run around the Glazer Family Playground (best to go at night to see the Bending Art Sculpture aglow), or grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants on the pier.

The Hangar Restaurant (0.6 miles) On the other side of the marina is the city’s Albert Whitted Airport, where small and personal aircraft take off and land from all over the area. Even better is you can watch the activity on the runway while enjoying a delicious meal at the Hangar Restaurant. They’re open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but recommend coming for their award winning breakfast and sitting on their back patio to enjoy the views.

St. Pete’s Art Scene (All museums 1.3 miles or less) St. Petersburg is home to a bustling art scene–with a ton to see and do within steps of the marina. The Dali Museum has the largest Salvador Dali collection outside of Spain. Over 20,000 works of art, including those by Monet and Georgia O’Keefe are on display at the Museum of Fine Arts. The James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art is a collection cultivated by St. Petersburg residents’ Tom and Mary James and reflecting their love for the West. The Morean Arts Center hosts the Chihuly Collection featuring Dale Chihuly’s glass artwork.

Saturday Market (1 mile) If you’re here on a Saturday, you can’t miss St. Pete’s Saturday Morning Market, open every Saturday from 9 am - 2 pm from Oct-May in the Al Lang Stadium parking lot. Stock up on fresh produce, crafts, and tasty food from 125+ local merchants. Hardest part will be deciding what you can fit on your boat!

Flatbread & Butter (1.6 miles) Nestled in the Historic Uptown neighborhood on the edge of Historic Round Lake Park, some of St. Pete’s best pizza can be found at Flatbread & Butter. A cozy restaurant, you can order your pizza and a glass of wine and eat in the restaurant or take your pizza to go back to the boat or make yourself a picnic and enjoy at the park.

Vinoy Park (1.7 miles) North of St. Petersburg Municipal Marina, this park is great to walk, bike, run or take a blanket and relax in the grass all while taking in great water views of Tampa Bay.

Pete’s General & Pete’s Bagels (2.3 miles) Founded by a New York native with a vision to bring fresh bagels to St. Pete, Pete’s General and Pete’s Bagels is a must-stop if you love fresh baked bread, pastries, and creative, locally made crafts and goods. Half the store is a bakery and the other half is filled with fun Florida-inspired items for sale from t-shirts to posters and more. It’s worth the trek.

Mazzaro’s Italian Market (4.3 miles) A full-fledged Italian market with a bakery, deli, coffee bar, butcher, seafood counter, wine store, and more. It’s a bit out of walking distance, but if you have a car or bike, it’s worth the trip to check out the scene, and get some inspiration to book a future trip to Italy after you’re done cruising Florida.

Publix (0.7 miles) If you need to stock up on groceries, Publix is an easy walk or bike from the docks.

Proximity to Attractions by Sea

Sunshine Skyway Bridge (12 miles) St. Pete provides boaters with easy access to open water cruising as well as the intracoastal waterway. On a calm day (or windy one if you sail) cruise out to the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, for views of one of the longest cable bridges in the world.

Downtown Tampa (21 miles) Head the opposite direction to Tampa where you can tie up to one of several restaurants or area docks to explore and enjoy a meal.

Gulfport via the Intracoastal (14 miles) If you’re looking for more protected waters, hug the coast (but follow the channel) and make your way to the intracoastal where you’ll pass Eckerd college students taking a break between classes on the campus beach. Continue farther north up the channel and either drop the hook and dinghy in or if your boat can fit, tie up at Gulfport’s free dinghy day dock to explore the shops and restaurants in this quaint town on the water.

The Big Catch (0.3 miles by land; 0.5 miles by water) Easily accessible by land or water (they have a small dock for a few boats and dinghies). Tucked away on Salt Creek, you’ll quickly understand why this charming tiki bar and restaurant is a popular watering hole for locals. Grab a seat at the bar or at a picnic table and admire the boats at the several boat yards that line this quiet cove. The food is fresh, the drinks are cold and the music is fun–what more could you want!
