Friendly people, and the launch service was excellent. The shower facility could use some updating and some cleaning. Nice town with good restaurants. We will definitely be back! Thank you

Ok close to the tender but also the charter boats

They went way over and above to help me get on the mooring alone at night with 25 knot gusts. The launch driver pulled up and transferred crew to my boat to help pick up the mooring while I steered. Love this place!

Great spot with a wonderfully organized mooring area. Friendly employees, prompt, pleasant tender service. Close to Sandy Hook and its sights and beaches. Very enjoyable stay. Will be back next summer.

Moorings full on Labor Day weekend, but for a reduced rate we were able to anchor just past the moorings and behind the breakwater, and had full use of the launch and the shore amenities. Very helpful phone call to arrange this and for guidance on where to anchor and go as this was our first time here. Would come back again!

These folks are awesome! The launch captains are so nice and helpful, I will always stop here on my way north & south. Plus, the launch runs to 11pm...unheard of!

Had confirmed reservation but arrived 3pm and no mooring were available, Expect rebate on $65. Mooring fee from dockwa.
Marina Response:
Sorry we could not get you on a mooring last weekend. Since you are a member of an Inter-Harbor yacht club your fee was canceled. Labor day weekend is the busiest weekend of the year and moorings are reserved very early. Your request for a mooring was made on the day of your arrival and a mooring was impossible to assign, as all the available moorings were booked weeks in advance. We also had a long list of boaters on a waitlist. The reason we didn't just decline your request was once it is declined you would have had to start all over with another reservation if you decided to use the anchorage and free launch service which is offered as part of our decline reason message. We deemed this an inconvenience to the boater so we confirmed your reservation as an anchorage stay with free launch service. Your "assignment" information i.e. "Anchorage" is always on your reservation confirmation page that is emailed to you when a reservation is accepted. The anchorage is well protected, and the weekend weather was quite settled. We successfully serviced numerous visitors from the anchorage that weekend. We look forward to your next trip. Whenever possible, it's always best to book in advance as this is a popular stopover for transients. We did receive many 5 star reviews for that day. Here are a few of them for your review. ------------------------------------------------------- These folks are awesome! Marina is very nice and convenient to the town - which has some very good restaurants. However, no showers.
Marina Response:
Henry, There are showers and restrooms on the ground floor under the yacht club provided by the town. The launch drivers will provide keys upon request.

Great stay. So convenient to take the ferry to Manhattan. And plenty of resturants with a 10 min walk. The launch drivers are all top notch. We we lucky the Fireman's Carnival was going so there was live music and good beer and food to be had. Highly recommend and would not hesitate to stay again. SV Puffin - 27' Compac

Beautiful calm and quiet place to spend the night. Short 3-4 hour sail from NYC. Amazing staff, very responsive by radio and phone at all times. Will definitely come back!
Marina Response:
I am very glad to hear our launch team was helpful and made your stay comfortable and secure. Regarding the bathrooms, as we have responded to others in the past, Atlantic Highland Yacht Club does not own, operate or maintain the bathrooms & shower facilities. The harbor and all of its facilities are municipally owned and operated. We have forwarded your comments for their review. Thanks for staying with us and I hope you had an opportunity to spend some time at the club for dinner and/or drinks and enjoy the view. Hope you visit again soon (if you do, please let me know, the first round is on me!). Regards, Joe Patsco, Rear Commodore

AHYC Launch drivers are the best. Friendly and careful. Mooring held through strong squall, another boat at anchor dragged onto the beach. We were glad to be safe on the mooring.

Water taxi Captain Denise was wonderful! He assisted us with the broken shower locks and went out of his way to bring us to another building that had nice showers. I didn’t give this a five star due to the bathroom keys not working, both men & women, plus the hours of the shuttle ended at 4 o’clock.

by Ludwig H. on Dec 09, 2022
On our way south to the Carib we made a stop here for weather. It was the last day of the season for AHYC and we managed to arrive the minute the launch stopped for the season. Still, they allowed us to stay for multiple nights while waiting for weather. We are familiar with the quality of the mooring field here and felt super comfortable. Thank you AHYC for helping sailors in true maritime tradition. SV ATARAXIA

Mooring field was excellent, very well laid out. Held well too: had a storm go through with 32+ kt winds. Excellent anchorage also available at the east end of the basin. Water taxi extremely convenient. Staff is very kind and friendly! Had to extend our stay an extra day; dockmaster was accommodating and quick to respond. Washroom/shower facilities were ok. Surrounding area is very nice with lots of areas to walk the dog, lovely walking and bike path, very short walk to town and lots of dine out options.

Excellent spot for a stop before or after the Sandy Hook -Cape May ocean stretch. We found good moorings, VERY welcoming members, clean showers, a great bar and restaurant, close to grocery, hardware store, and a ferry to NYC. The no wake signs should be moved to the start of the mooring field to make it absolutely perfect.

I am seeing a lot of reviews about friendly staff, but not the staff we met today. We made a reservation online this morning and it was not acknowledged and we tried to call 3 times without a response (it was declined 5 hours later online on our way back to where we came from...). We thought we would be able to confirm upon arrival , did not think it would be an issue to have a mooring. We were met by very rude staff at the launch asking us in an aggressive manner if we had received a confirmation and that there were no moorings available. I don't think we deserved such a treatment especially based on the lack of acknowledgment...

Really transient friendly- fast launch service, attractive and easy to negotiate floating landing, small but pleasant club facility and very friendly people. We met the Commodore Sat evening and chatted for a while about the work he’s spearheading to update the indoor facilities - the bar already looks handsome. These are nice people charging a very reasonable amount and delivering super service. Would highly recommend!

The yacht club mooring was very secure, the launch operators prompt and efficient. The shower and bath facilities, while clean and new, were quite a distance. There was no laundry facility at the club or the municipal marina. The nearest one was on First Street and is the pits!

Really great launch drivers run the moorings very professionally. Mooring gear and docks are excellent, sadly thanks to Sandy. We will make this a regular stop for sure.

The staff went beyond any expectations. We arrived at Thursday 4:30 pm after a day of battling prevailing winds of 25 KT winds with 30 KT gusts. We left early that morning and conquered Plum Gut, East River, Hell Gate and Battery Point and NY's shipping channel. Needless to day we were pretty tired upon arrival. Joel went out of his way to get us a mooring to include and pendant and stick and located us close to the dock as we had to use the dinghy in get ashore. The club was closing down that Saturday for the season. We needed to stay until Wednesday morning for a safe weather window. Joel and Dennis worked together to provide the mooring to us until we were able to leave. We can't explain how much their concern for our safety meant to us. If we could give them more stars we would!

We stayed at Atlantic Highlands yacht club for 2 nights. We stayed there before in July 2020. The yacht club staff was again very responsive on Dockwa during the reservation process. The mooring field is very nice - logically laid out and very protected. The dockmaster was very helpful as we approached, telling us our mooring assignment and how to approach - super easy. We went to the fuel dock / pump out first and after seeing the size of our boat (50'), the dockmaster decided to move us to a different ball that was better for us - this was great. The launch service was great. There is a nice running / biking trail that goes right by the yacht club - great views of Sandy Hook Bay and NYC in the background.

Should have had an email/ text package of where to pick up shower cards, launch hours, laundry etc . . . If we had know the launch quit at 6 we would have anchored
Marina Response:
pbraschi.... Sorry for the inconvenience. We have our launch schedule on our AHYC club website for all to check and reduce hours of operation as we go into the fall season and have greatly reduced demand for service. The simplest way however is simply to ask the launch operators for the hours of operation. If they are not satisfactory for your visit when you check in, you can always cancel your reservation. Concerning your other issues, as we've responded to others in the past, the AHYC does not own, operate or maintain the shower facilities in the harbor... they belong to the harbor... the AHYC launch drivers only provide keys to the showers during operating hours as a convenience, otherwise visitors need to contact the harbor or harbor security. Neither the AHYC or the harbor have laundry facilities; there is a commercial laundry just outside the harbor, about a 5 minute walk from the docks. AHYC Launch Committee

The two best things going for the marina are proximity to Sandy Hook and that the moorings are behind a breakwater. We arrived at the end of the season and could get access to the washrooms so we have no idea what to say about them.

Very convenient and efficient launch service. Good restaurant s close by. AH Yacht Club was delightful. Secure mooring inside the breakwater

by Paul H. on Oct 08, 2019
I never give bad reviews but I in this case I must. I made a reservation on Docwa before heading out from Manhattan on my way south but when I arrived the the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club radioed me a mooring location but then radioed over VHS to let someone they knew who was 100 yards behind me take my mooring, and then retracted my reservation and mooring. It was clear from the radio exchange that it was a favor to a friend of the club. Then they just cancelled out my three day reservation, washed their hands of me. Some guy motored out on the launch to shout that they had some confusion and I should just anchor. Wouldn’t have been a problem because I like the anchor area nearby but I wasn’t anchoring there because I have to leave my boat for a couple days. I had a three day reservation and they just tossed me off for some relationship with the club. I am on a fixed income so that hurts as I now have to pay for an expensive slip nearby with the unrelated marina. My advice is to hammer call multiple times as you approach and badger them to make sure they don’t drop your reservation.
Marina Response:
packman... sorry for this unfortunate incident, however, we investigated your complaint. We record all VHF transmissions between our launches and other vessels should there ever be a need for a Coast Guard investigation and could not find any communication with another vessel suggesting your mooring was given away, though obviously there was a communication / mooring issue. Th recent bad weather has result in mooring availability issues with boats not being hauled on schedule (thus not providing open moorings for transients) and transients overstaying their reservation dates. Again, all we can do is apologize. AHYC Launch Committee

This is a great place to stop. We fueled at the Municipal Marina (with unfortunately a rather unhelpful young man), then picked up a mooring ball at Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club. This is a huge mooring field, but we were very comfortable on U2 during strong NW winds. The Launch service is stellar, and this is a rare instance where we did not need to put our dinghy in the water. We were able to stay on the mooring ball a little longer than checkout time as long as we kept our radio on 9 and monitored for the next guest. The mooring fee is now $55 (Active Captain still shows $50), but well worth it with the shower facilities and the launch service.

This is a tough one - we really like it here and while we normally anchor out, we’ll usually take a mooring for at least a few nights whenever we pass through. Good supermarket, liquor stores, hardware store (propane), Library, post office & restaurants all under a mile away! Great dinghy dock, great launch service and exceptional launch captains - friendly, courteous & professional! So why 3 stars? The showers are abysmal! Now, I normally shower aboard Rocinante, but decided to check them out. Again, Abysmal! This is a yacht club, not a public park... Please upgrade your facilities to match the rest of your exceptional service!
Marina Response:
Thanks for the positive comments but, as far as the showers/rest rooms, as pointed out in our summary page, those facilities are the property of the town harbor marina, not the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club. Our total involvement with the facilities is handing out keys to transients in the mooring field so they wont have to go to the harbor office. AHYC Launch Committee

Facilities available by key only while launch operates and are poorly laid out. Showers on the hallway to the commodes, rediculous! Yacht Club has extended a single row string of moorings 200 yards into what used to be anchorage. Message received, $50 per night mooring makes this an as needed stop only. Otherwise a great place for dinner and a few brews. Why do towns have to ruin it for travelers.

Our stay was awesome and the launch driver/check in person was very friendly. One important note: If searching for Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club on Dockwa, it does not appear, under that name, initials, or a search of the area. Strangely after the launch driver told us that they used Dockwa, I searched under "Highlands" and by chance found it??

Great marina for mooring a sailboat, fast Launch service, and friendly. Beautiful stone sea wall to keep your boat well protected.

About Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club

Welcome to the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club!

Since its founding in 1953, the mission of the AHYC has been to attract and bring together dedicated individuals who share a mutual respect for the sea, and to encourage and advance all aspects of boating, yacht racing, and on-water activities, including offering a welcome and safe haven to yachtsmen and yachtswomen who visit the harbor.

Located within the protected Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor in Atlantic Highlands, NJ, AHYC maintains the reputation of being a convenient and popular stopover for boaters - cruising or in transit - as we are close to Sandy Hook and New York Harbor. We offer secure moorings and launch service to transiting sailboats, up to 50' in length, from mid-May to early November.

Our facilities include the moorings and launch service and a second story club house with spectacular views of Sandy Hook Bay and the New York City skyline. All our mooring guests are invited to visit our club, meet our members, enjoy a meal and cocktail, and partake in the friendship that is the AHYC. The inviting bar is well stocked, and the galley offers varied food menus.

Shower and bathroom facilities are provided by the Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor, not the AHYC. Access keys are available from the Launch Drivers during normal operating hours. Check our website, www.ahyc.net, for the daily launch schedule.

Visitors should be aware that we can not accommodate power vessels of any length or sailboats greater than 50' in length on our moorings due to Atlantic Highlands Municipal Harbor policy; dock slips for these vessels may be obtained by contacting the harbor office on Ch 09. Dockwa reservations are for transient moorings only.
