If you like high prices and unfriendly staff, the Montauk Marine Basin is the place for you. I would avoid it in favor of the Montauk Lake Club and Marina.
We stop in here to get fuel on every trip we are passing by, they have Valvtec which I find burns cleaner for my boat and the price is very good and they pump a lot of fuel with all the fishing boats. Facility is good, but nothing special, the upside is you can walk down to Gosmens and other restaurants and shops that are near the jetty. Also if you need service work I'd perfer to be here then any of the resort marina's.
We were pleased and surprised to see 3- 4 dogs off leash on the docks, in the office and the ships store. All well behaved and friendly. This is our dog Tug's favorite stop now. Docks are fixed pilings with stern exit only so rig all you lines accordingly unless you are lucky to get out on the fuel dock.
Docks are a little rough, but the showers are clean and hot, and the people are nice (even if they are mostly interested in the fishing customers). The off season rate is now actually $2.50 a foot, but when I called I asked for the "old" rate of $1.50 and they gave it to me. The locals drink at Liars, which is right around the corner; Liars was also the only dinghy dock we found on the west side of the harbor, although I wonder if it would be as easily usable in-season.
We have tried Yacht Club and Star Island in our small (30 ft) cruiser and felt that we were small inportance.
We have since always stayed at Montauk Marine Basin. True the marina is geared toward fishing, but they have always been extremely friendly and helpful. The staff have tons of local knowledge ranging from fishing, marine, beaches, resturants etc.
as with most of Montauk friendly to the fishing boat not to the sailboat. Way overpriced. They do have fuel and other supplies.
We were just there as transients over the 07/16/2011 weekend. super friendly and staff very helpful. electric, cable, and water were perfect with decent hook ups. marina is older fishing marina-but thats what montaulk is about. good pricing versus mtyc or star. The boat next to us was having mechanical issues that saturday and thier mechanic worked dilligently to locate the problem well into the evening. the store is very stocked with parts and tackle and supplies. I will return again. thanx guys.
Stopped at this marina on way home from Salem, Ma. Owner was very friendly as well as the staff. Fuel dock was easlily approachable and amenities were clean.
Lake Montauk is mostly geared to sport fishing and MMB is as well. They do, however go out of their way to accommodate cruising sail boats. Short walk to plenty of good restaurants and beach.
This marina is in dire need of some TLC. The docks are literally falling apart and it took me 20 minutes to find electric that worked for my boat (2-30A). They apparently do not answer Ch 9 as advertised, since it took several phone calls and hanging out for 15 minutes in front of their dock before they could give me a slip location, and this is with a reservation. I talked with several others that had the same experience when arriving. The fact that the dock hand, when he finally showed up, had no clue how to tie up and connect a boat did not help matters. The bathrooms and showers were mostly clean, but again, in need of repair. The marina is in a convenient location for all that the "Lake Montauk Fishing Village" has to offer, and they are a well stocked marine store.
I have been spending a week or two here for the past 15yrs every summer. It is definately a "fishy" place with fishing being the main activity. That said, it is close to retaurants, grocert & bars. Cabs are available to get into the town of Montuak. It is a complete marina will all repair facilities gas & diesel. Nice porch to sit out on in the evening or during bad weather to get off your boat.
Located only minutes from Montauk Inlet, when entering harbor going past the commercial fleet stay to the right (Western Heading) and look for the Montauk Marine Basin fuel dock sign. Pictured here is the harbor entrance looking north east. Montauk Marine Basin monitors VHF Channel 19. Call us for berth info, fuel dock clearance or a radio check. We are close to motels, restaurants, golf, tennis, horseback riding, boat rentals, shopping, and best of all great beaches. Montauk Marine is very close and within walking distance of the Gosman's Dock complex. Boaters even stay at Montauk Marine for afternoon and browse the shops and have a great lunch at nearby restaurants such as Swallow East, Dave's Grill, Sammy's and Manucci's all within a short walking distance of Montauk Marine Basin.
