No one was available by phone or over the radio when we were trying to find out morning ball. Other than that, it was very convenient.

Wonderful! Mooring balls have 2 painters attached. No need to use your own ropes. Tender service in the harbor was a bonus. No need to launch your dinghy.

Fabulous! From arrival to departure, everything was fabulous! The members were very welcoming and accommodating. However, the true benefit to staying here was the launch operators, Gunner and Gina. They were very polite and professional and willing to help in any way. For example, I received a package from Amazon and Gina picked the package and was going to deliver it to the boat. This is the type of service provided. I highly recommend this stop!

Great Loop Friendly Stop – Richmond County Yacht Club, Great Kills Harbor
We recently picked up a mooring ball at Richmond County Yacht Club in Great Kills Harbor during our Great Loop journey, and it was one of our favorite stops so far.
The harbor is extremely well protected from wind and provides a comfortable, secure place to rest. The club itself is beautiful, and the atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing. For anyone needing provisions, there are grocery stores, restaurants, and shopping approximately three miles away. We brought our scooters and had no problem making the trip.
The tender service was outstanding. The staff was professional, efficient, and incredibly friendly. Everyone made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived.
One of the highlights of our visit was meeting Corey, one of the head chefs. He prepared a meal for us that was absolutely amazing. We also had the pleasure of meeting the Past Commodore / current Dockwa coordinator and Bar chairman, Matt and his wife. They were exceptionally friendly, helpful, and truly made us feel at home.
For Loopers, the location is excellent. It was only about an hour and a half from the Statue of Liberty (by boat), making it a convenient stop before or after visiting New York Harbor.
One navigation tip: when entering the inlet, do not head toward the green triangular marker. Depths in that area can be as little as three feet depending on the tide. Pay close attention to your chartplotter and stay in the marked channel.
Whether you're looking for a mooring ball, dockage, provisions, or simply a comfortable place to relax for a few days, Richmond County Yacht Club is an excellent choice. The combination of protection, convenience, friendly people, and beautiful facilities makes this a stop we highly recommend.
Cheers,
William & Tonisha Melvin

We stayed on a mooring ball. The marina had a great dinghy dock but also offered a tender service to pick you up. The Marina was clean and everyone was friendly and helpful.

We enjoy visiting yacht clubs along our journey, and the Richmond County Yacht Club has set the absolute gold standard for mooring ball operations. This is how it should be done everywhere!
Their mooring field is laid out in two clean, organized lines, and the balls themselves are a dream to use. Each one has an eye that lets you literally just pick it up and drop it right over your cleat. No wrestling, no scrambling, no crew stress. When you are ready to depart, you simply lift it off the cleat and drop it in the water and you are on your way. The whole process is effortless.
What really sets them apart is the thoughtful detail of attaching pool noodles to the lines so everything floats right at the surface, making it easy to grab from the deck. Add to that a tender that comes right out to pick you up and ferry you in, and you have a first class experience from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave.
This was, without question, the best mooring ball experience we have ever had. The club itself was warm, welcoming, and friendly in every way. The Richmond County Yacht Club should be required reading for any marina or yacht club that operates a mooring field. Other clubs, take note. This is how you do it!
Highly recommend and would return in a heartbeat. Follow us on Facebook @Kwiat Nights III

We needed a safe place to leave the boat to attend some business. We arrived earlier and RVYC adjusted their assigments to provide us with a safe mooring ball. The first night on the mooring we experienced strong wind and thunderstorm and delta very secure. We were at ease in leaving the boat. While we were away, one of the pendant broke and was replaced, showing their close monitoring of the field. The tender service is excellent and very responsive. The dinghy dock is great allowing for late return from visiting. A direct bus to Manhattan is 2 blocks up making easy to travel. As we arrived before their official season started, the only way to contact them was using dockwa message, but were answered minutes after. All people met were friendly and helpful.

We arrived with no communication from RCYC that our assigned mooring was not available, we later found out it was given to another boat who had just arrived before us. A phone call or message would go along way! Not an ideal situation after a 10 hr day. We were waked by passing boats often.

Amazing stay! The mooring location was perfect — well positioned, easy to access, and in excellent condition. The tender service was outstanding and always quick to respond, which made getting back and forth incredibly easy.
The club itself is beautiful, with a welcoming atmosphere that made us feel right at home. Everyone we encountered, from the staff to the members, was exceptionally friendly and helpful. It’s easy to see why this place is so well loved. We truly enjoyed our time here

The Commodore of the Yacht Club, Matt, was very responsive and went above and beyond to help us with a late arrival, assisting to locate a suitable mooring and ensure we were comfortable. An invite to come over to the bar the next evening led to a wonderful night in a very nice facility with very friendly and welcoming members. Definitely planning to return.

Enjoyed our overnight stay at RCYC.
Had great cocktails at bar before going out for dinner nearby. We will certainly be returning next year.

We had a great stay at Richmond. There was a wind advisory for several days and we had a great mooring right in front of the club. It was well protected in the high winds and the shuttle boat was very attentive. Would stay here again.

Second time staying here. Still expensive for a mooring but Tim and his staff have made improvements. Mooring field map very helpful. Launch serivce excellent. Don’t miss Cole’s Dockside restaurant. Amazing
Marina Response:
Lou, We're sorry to hear your experience didn’t meet expectations. The rates at RCYC include launch service and access to our clubhouse, which many guests find adds value to their stay. We’ve also recently uploaded a detailed harbor map to Dockwa to help visitors better understand the mooring field layout. We hope you’ll consider giving us another try in the future.

A newly dredged channel made it possible and safe for our 8ft draft boat to enter. Nice and welcoming staff with a good shuttle service ashore. Mooring balls are limited in size and seems a bit old and worn out. In the bay there are several wrecks, of which one stands on bottom with mast straight up. Reasonable distance to groceries and good public options for transport to NY City.

Excellent harbor, location and mooring. Very quiet night, very calm conditions. RCYC very polite

The staff ant RCYC and facilities are a step above. The club house is available to transients and a fully stocked cash bar with very reasonably priced drinks was waiting when we arrived. We will definitely be back.

We discovered Richmond County Yacht Club thanks to friends who had stayed on a transient mooring the year before. It’s generally protected from the wind and waves. The launch service is included and very efficient. The clubhouse, including the showers and restrooms, is very nice: welcoming, clean and nicely designed. Good restaurants are also available within easy walking distance. The yacht club was very accommodating when we asked to stay additional nights to wait out bad weather and equally accommodating when we asked if we could cancel one of the additional nights when we discovered a window of opportunity to leave earlier. We would gladly stay here again and highly recommend doing so to others.
