Steve was a great dockmaster. He gave us great directions coming into the marina and helped us tie up. Sent information via text and email with all the information we needed. Gave us a welcome packet with information about all the things to do around the area. The marina is nice and clean and showers were nice. We will definitely be stopping back when we complete the loop in 2028. Definitely a great place to stop. Thank you from Since our First Round

Why a 5 star? Location/location/location, scenic area, marina services, and exceptional hospitality to transient Loopers. You can’t beat the access to NYC via train or vehicle from this marina. It’s the best- there’s a car rental agency up the road and several restaurants and groceries nearby. In fact, earlier this week we were able to see the French planes fly over head on their way to the Statue of Liberty for our country’s 250th celebration. The beautiful mountains surrounding the marina and its bay are spectacular. Stephen is an excellent Dock Master who is most professional and caring for each boat that arrives at the Marina. His energy and kindness is limitless! We’ve stopped at other marinas before and have sought referrals to help with mechanical issues; however, Stephen’s referral was by far the best. Owen’s assistance with an electrical issue was top notch. Our first night at the marina was docktails with 5-6 other Looper boats. We all know a good thing when we see it!

The good: Half Moon is conveniently located to so many things and there is a lot of great sightseeing in the area.
Enterprise is about 1/2 mile from the marina and it is an easy walk on a sidewalk the entire way.
There are several restaurants that are reasonably priced in the area also within a short walk. There was also a great charcuterie store that I wanted to check out but did not make it.
The dock master, Steve, is very pleasant and tries to make things as hospitable as possible.
There are no laundry facilities, but a laundromat is apparently a short Uber or drive away.
The not so good:
The docks are floating but need some serious reinforcement and updates. Many of the cleats are bolted to only one board that is weathered. In a Northwest to West wind it is very rough in the marina.
There is a seawall/breakwater but it is not adequate in northwest winds.
A squall came through one evening when we were there. There were three foot breaking waves over the docks and the docks looked like someone was shaking them. One boat broke off. Several dock boxes were damaged by anchors that 'crashed' into them in the storm.
Our boat did not suffer any damage only because we stood outside fending off the dock the entire time. And before anyone asks, we were tied up quite securely with plenty of fenders.
Unfortunately, because of this we decided to leave early.
After much debate, we did finally receive a refund for part of our unused days. It did take me contacting Dockwa to get the refund processed.
Bottom line:
We would not stay here again if there was any chance of unfavorable winds. I would stay in Great Kills to do the New York side of things and then go to Rondout to do things like Westpoint, CIA, Bannerman, ect.
Marina Response:
Unfortunately, your stay coincided with an extremely rare weather event, with wind gusts exceeding 85 mph—conditions that impacted marinas all along the East Coast.
What many boaters may not realize is that Half Moon Bay Marina is actually one of the most sought-after storm shelters on the Hudson River. We are renowned for our exceptional protection from severe weather, particularly during major coastal storms. Unlike virtually every other marina in the region, Half Moon Bay sustained zero damage during Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Irene, and other significant East Coast storms. Our naturally protected basin, combined with our wave-attenuated seawall, has made us a trusted refuge for boaters for decades.
The recent storm was unusual because the strongest winds came from the northwest at near-hurricane-force speeds. Even then, our marina performed exceptionally well. In addition, every cleat throughout the marina is through-bolted into heavily reinforced steel structures, and every dock was either completely rebuilt or extensively renovated during our recent $1 million-plus improvement project completed this spring.
We're also sorry if there was any confusion regarding laundry service. We offer complimentary pickup and delivery, with most laundry returned within approximately 2 to 2½ hours.
We encourage all guests to call us before arrival with any questions so we can ensure they get the most out of their stay. We can be reached at 914-271-5400.

Outstanding Stay at Half Moon Bay Marina
Half Moon Bay Marina turned out to be one of our favorite stops on the Great Loop. We originally planned to stay for just one night, but enjoyed it so much that we extended our stay to three nights. If we hadn't already made arrangements at our next destination, we would have gladly stayed even longer.
The marina is in a beautiful and peaceful location with stunning views of the Hudson River. One of our favorite features was the walking path that follows the waterfront in both directions, making it perfect for morning walks, evening strolls, or simply enjoying the scenery.
The marina offers water and electricity, and everything was well maintained. It is also incredibly convenient for provisioning, with a grocery store located less than half a mile away. There is an Enterprise rental car location about half a mile from the marina, and they even came to pick us up, making transportation easy and stress-free.
The location is also ideal for sightseeing. West Point is a short drive away and well worth a visit. We also highly recommend Croton Gorge Park, which features an impressive dam and a spectacular waterfall. You can walk across the dam for amazing views and photos, and the park has plenty of green space and picnic areas to enjoy.
What truly made our stay exceptional was the outstanding service from Dockmaster Steve. From the moment we arrived, he went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. He guided us into our slip, helped with our lines, and was incredibly attentive throughout our stay. Steve was patient, knowledgeable, and always willing to help or point us in the right direction. His professionalism and customer service are a tremendous asset to the marina.
For Loopers and other cruisers looking for a peaceful, convenient, and well-managed stop on the Hudson River, Half Moon Bay Marina is an excellent choice. Between the beautiful setting, nearby attractions, easy access to provisions and transportation, and exceptional service, this marina earns every bit of its five-star rating.
Cheers,
William & Tonisha Melvin

Half Moon Bay is most appreciated for the proximity it has to the train station, a rental car facility and the beginning of the beautiful Hudson River Valley. Unfortunately, the Marina is in the bottom 25% of the marinas we’ve stayed on in this great loop and is not a good value. The docks are in poor shape as they apparently had a bad winter ice season last winter. The bathrooms are in poor shape as well with only one toilet and one shower per gender and poor from a cleanliness and an appearance point of view. The limited brake wall at the marina is not sufficient to curb the constant surge and waves that come through. Staff tries hard to compensate but this would not be our choice should we return.
Marina Response:
We're disappointed to hear that your visit did not reflect the experience most of our guests have at the marina. Over the past few months, we have invested more than $1 million in improvements, with most of our docks being newly rebuilt or extensively renovated.
The women's facilities include multiple restrooms, and there are additional restrooms and amenities available in the clubhouse that may not have been brought to your attention. The condition you described is not representative of our facilities, which are cleaned and checked several times each day.
The wave attenuator does work quite effectively.
We take great pride in maintaining one of the most improved marinas on the Hudson River and encourage anyone with questions to contact us directly at 914-271-5400.

Steve went above and beyond- with texts on ETA, directions and assistance on the dock to special attraction recommendations. His attention to details does not go unnoticed. The marina itself is convieniently located and has a beautiful view of the river. Many walking trails and nearby attractions. Easy to take the train into NYC. Free self serve pumpout. Would be nice to have laundry on site but not a dealbreaker. Highly recommend a stop here.

Great location and staff.

This is a nice marina, picturesque location, protected docks, close to town. Steve is great, sent lots of information both about logistics for arrival & docking, plus additional information about amenities and local activities & services. It was a good place to stop along the Hudson. We had a nice stay.

Marina is behind a break wall that does no good with wind from northwest. Docks are not very well attached to pilings and are extremely wobbly. We had 30 mph 2days and boat was rocking and rolling 2feet with waves coming into slips. Aminities are water and electric. Do it yourself pump out around the wall. It is a few blocks to town and car rental . Croton dam is 10 min drive. Check the wind forecast before reserving . If it is out of west or north I would go on other side of river.
Marina Response:
We are sorry but this is not true- no such thing as 2 foot waves inside the marina- Our breakwater attenuates 90 percent of the wave action. EVERYTHING in town is well within an easy flat 1/4 mile walk ...Entrerprise is less than a quarter mile downhill walk & they deliver their cars for free. -The Croton Dam is exactly 2 & a half miles and takes not even a 3 to 4 minutes to drive to - The immediate town w many popular restaurants, Drugstores, 4 Superb supermarkets, and a world class bunch of restaurants etc are well within an easy 1/4 mi walk***Lastly, our marina docks have been extensively rebuilt and are now over 98% brand new — stronger and more solid than virtually any marina on the Hudson River. The weather during this guest’s stay was tied to an extremely rare and unusually strong storm event that created abnormal conditions throughout the region. These conditions were highly atypical for our season and are not representative of what boaters normally experience here. We continue to receive tremendous feedback from guests on the quality, strength, and condition of our marina improvements. We have Free WiFi, as as many other terrific amenities such as free pick up and re-delivery of laundry for a very inexpensive price together with a one hour turnaround time.

Great Marina with a car rental within walking distance. Stayed two nights to see the sites and stock up at the grocery store. Dock Master Steve was very helpful and provided us with a hand drawn map of the area and a AGLCA ornament !

Half Moon Bay was a great stay. The location is absolutely beautiful and a perfect distance coming up from New York. The train station is right next door if you need to catch a train and I heard they have a convenient airport too. We rented a car from Enterprise which gives you a discount if you stay at the marina and was only a half mile walk. The docks are floating and are in good condition and there is quite a bit that is new. They have a pump out that is free and easy to get to. Steve was super helpful providing us suggestions of places to visit and we could definitely have spent more time there. We enjoyed biking on the trail right outside the marina.

Very nice marina. Steve went out of his way to help us during our stay. Easy walk to town for provisions and meals. We walked to train station and went to NYC to Grand Central Terminal. Fun time. Highly recommend stopping here. Only down side is no laundry on site.
Marina Response:
Hi Will —thanks! ➡️While we don’t have on-site laundry, we do have an excellent inexpensive pickup/drop-off laundry service right to your boat — with perfectly folded same-day service in about 2 hours. The owner’s father is even a Great Looper!
There are 3 more other terrific and ridiculously low priced laundromats and also a do it yourself ones within a very short walk.

I love this spot. Well protected slips, clean facilities, attentive Dockmaster and good proximity to bars, restaurants, parks, a beach, and train station. We walked about a mile up to the station and had a great day trip to Manhattan.

Steve, the dockmaster is amazing! So helpful and knowledgeable of the whole area of Croton on Hudson. The marina was easy in and out. Rental cars available to tour the area. Steve sends out this amazing list with links to different categories like sites, restaurants and personal needs. We even had a dental emergency and he found us a dentist. Thanks, Steve for a great stay!!

We had a great stay at Half Moon Bay. Our one day turned into 3 due to weather. Steve was wonderful. He has an amazing file of things to do in the area. Helped us get a rent a car and all his recommendations were spot on ! We had some internet issues and he found me a great spot to work from. Would highly recommend Half Moon Bay. It’s a good day on the water when you have no issues with power or water and floating docks! Steve was a delight! Beautiful sunrises, and sunsets! Picturesque! If you do not use your head on your boat, it is a distance to the shower and bathroom facilities.

Beautiful location and is a welcoming, high quality marina. Access to town is not as easy as that of most marinas. I used two 50 watt power cords and it generated voltage of 205, not the 240 that most marinas would provide.
Marina Response:
Very sorry, we will get that power stantion check out today. Voltage is usually much higher! As for town, most restaurants are well within an easy flat quarter mile walk. There's over 50 great restaurants that are very close- So sorry we didn't make it clear where they were.

My partner and I spent last night at Half Moon Bay in our Catalina 30 and had an amazing experience. The customer service was top notch. I booked the stay in Dockwa and got a response from HMB within a few minutes along with a welcome packet filled with information, maps of the area, etc... as well as our assigned slip. Steve answered every question promptly and enthusiastically. The marina itself is beautiful, well kept and easy to navigate. We are definitely coming back! Next time with our dog.:)
