The Outer Moorings are a great choice when visiting Cuttyhunk. They are far less congested that the harbor moorings and only a short dingy ride from the main pier. Very well protected from southerly winds and seas.

Convenient and safe, but no guidance when reserving on what to do when arrive, and quite noisy mooring stick when it got a bit breezy. Not a good night's sleep

Cuttyhunk is a great place to visit but if you’re considering doing business with Duane Lynch, you’ll want to be watchful of your transactions. If you don’t know, Duane runs the local fuel services, some charter fishing and owns the Cuttyhunk Café, the Lobster Shack and the Cuttyhunk Outer Moorings (COM), which is the subject of this review. This is a little long but the facts are the facts and it’s important to understand them before doing business with Duane. Through Dockwa, on a Thursday this summer, we tried booking a two night reservation at the Cuttyhunk Outer Moorings for the next day, Friday night, then Saturday night. The response we received from COM via Dockwa, was that we were on a waiting list because he didn’t have a reservation available for Saturday night. I called Duane on his cell phone when we got into the harbor channel. He answered and we discussed the reservation. He said he couldn’t revise it for just one night and that we just had to make another request for Friday night through Dockwa. No problem for me. Once we got into the harbor, we found that we were able to pick up a piling for two nights, so I never made another reservation and again, the original two-night reservation was still in a waiting list state that Duane stated he couldn’t change. I then texted Duane on his phone to let him know that we picked up a piling from another operator and that we were all set and no longer needed one of his moorings. On Saturday morning I received and email from Dockwa that I was charged for two nights at Duane’s moorings. I was shocked. I knew I could find him on the docks in the harbor so I went to speak with him that morning. I found him at the Café he owns and asked him about it. He firmly stated that there was a seven day cancellation policy and because we were well outside of that, I couldn’t get my money back. I stated that I never booked another mooring and the original two-night reservation was never confirmed and finally, I reminded him that I texted him stating we were all set because we grabbed an unreserved mooring inside the harbor. How could I cancel a reservation that was never confirmed in the first place?! That’s when he started to get belligerent and arguing the seven day cancellation point again, at which point I stated that I never actually had a confirmed reservation so how could I be charged, that it was a mistake and that I wanted a refund. That’s when a woman sitting with him, presumably his wife Lexi, said to Duane, “Well, wouldn’t you have to confirm the reservation for the charge to go through?” At this point he got very agitated and pulls out his phone, taps away and says to me in a very nasty tone, “There, I refunded the money, now, [throwing his phone on the table] let me eat my doughnut!” Really horrible and unfortunate interaction and sorry to interrupt your doughnut eating Duane but I’ve been a customer of both your Café and the Lobster Shack this year already so I thought you would be willing to talk to me with some civility, to learn that you made a mistake. But instead, you tried to make it my fault and screw me out of $100. Yes, in the end, you did refund it, thank you for that but the basis from which you were trying to keep it was fraudulent from the beginning. In addition, if you didn’t have a mooring reservation for Saturday night, strange that all of a sudden, you confirm and I get charged after I told you we were all set. The short sighted nature of this encounter: considering that over 75% of your yearly revenue comes from these businesses and the people who patronize those businesses, perhaps a better approach would be that you don’t get arrogant, belligerent and short with your clients; essentially biting the hands that feed you. We’ll be back to this beautiful island for certain but we’ll just anchor inside or outside the harbor to avoid all of the nonsense.

Nice stay! Moorings are well cared for and are located conveniently north of the Jetty. Perfect.

We were very happy (and lucky) to be able to get a mooring in the outer harbor. Great location and convenient mooring design made for a great experience. Highly Recommended.

Our stay at Cuttyhunk was lovely. Mooring was easy to find and pick up. Very happy overall.

It can be a bumpy anchoring or mooring outside if the winds are out of the NE (which is not the prevailing wind). Overall I loved my stay at Cuttyhunk. Thanks so much!

Wonderful Easiest mooring to pick up ever! Delightful location. Hiked to lookout point, raw bar boat, beach beautifully low key

Inadequate depth despite claiming 10 ft. Only 7.5 at low at the outer mooring we picked up. Decided to anchor instead.

Easy to find. A bit bumpy with a north wind

Another great visit to Cuttyhunk. I always stay on the outer moorings … It’s much less hectic than the parking lot in the harbor.

Mooring are not clearly marked outside the harbor and had to pay another mooring service another $50. Dockwa lists as Cuttyhunk outside moorings which is misleading. Only a certain # are theirs which is not clear.

Cuttyhunk is one of our favorite places to go, so close to home and we love staying on the outside where we feel like is is a bit quieter.

Great response and service when scheduling thru Dockwa. Moorings well maintained and easy to tie to. BEWARE there is a dangerous rock adjacent to the field - so keep both red Nuns starboard , as the rock is between the last red and the land . The ledge is totally submerged at high tide but clearly visible at low. Otherwise a great location for a stopover if you don’t mind being outside the harbor . I’d happily do it again . Depths 8-11 ft

The Raw Bar bum boat is wonderful, but the experience was 5 stars before Dockwa, when it was 1st come and you could pick up any open mooring.

However, I didn't stay on your moorings - I stayed on the Town morings, not realizing there was a difference, so technically you owe the Harbormaster $50.

Be advised you will not be given an assigned mooring, you just take any available.

RESOLVE had a great second stay on our way home. It was fully booked on a Saturday night and the outer moorings master was politely checking reservations and asking boats to move if they were not properly booked.

Good spot in the outer harbor

Easy to pick up the mooring. Nice dinghy ride into the dock. Fabulous fresh oysters delivered to the boat freshly shucked. What could be better?

Was happy to get a mouring with the sustained winds of 30 on such a busy weekend
